SPORTS RELIEF FRIDAY 18TH MARCH. Our Sports Leaders have been very busy arranging activities for the whole school to take part in. Children can come to school dressed in their PE kit, Sport Relief T-Shirt, if they have one and a hat/flat cap/baseball cap for £1 donation. One of the events will be catching money in their hat, this money will be donated to Yorkshire Brain Tumour & Research Charity, and the rest of the money raised will go to Sport Relief. There will also be an opportunity to throw wet sponges at members of staff, 50p per throw so please send any spare change in an envelope or purse/wallet labelled with your child’s name and either hat money or wet sponge money in case they misplace it.
Tickets are now available for the annual PTA quiz night on Friday 18 March at 7:30. Tickets, available through ParentPay, are £6 and include a Pie and Peas supper. There will also be a bar with beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks available on the night. Once you have paid we will send your tickets home with your child. This is always a fantastic evening with over 100 attending last year. Please help us make this another fantastic fundraising event for the school.
The Sumdog’s Math Contest started today please encourage children to take part. Let’s get them onto the leader board! It started at 8am this morning and finishes at 8pm on March 17th.
Please encourage your child to enter the Tour de Yorkshire art competition. We are very keen to see the range of ideas that our children come up with, and the winning entry will be created for the race day.
We would like to draw the attention of all parents and visitors to our no smoking policy. This extends throughout the entire site and includes the use of e-cigarettes. We would ask your support in encouraging compliance with this policy. Any visitor found smoking or using an e-cigarette on the premises will be asked to leave.
Don’t forget our Easter bonnet competition. On the last day of term, 24th March, we will be inviting all children to wear a bonnet that they have decorated at home.
Congratulations to Harry Stone in Year 6 who has been selected to attend the England Disability Football Squad, having been scouted through their talent programme. A fantastic achievement!
If you have old bikes that children have outgrown or even adult ones that don’t get used you can bring them into school on Monday or Tuesday this week and we will send them Selby Bike Library. They are used for students to rebuild and maintain, they are also available for people to borrow when they don’t have a bike. We can only accept bikes Monday and Tuesday as we are short of storage space. Thank you.
W/C 21st March – please note that Tuesday and Wednesday lunches will be switched around, so on Tues it will be lasagne and Weds will be the roast chicken, this will be followed by an Easter Crispie bun instead of rice pudding and jam.
Mrs Williams, Headteacher from Sherburn High School will be in school at 3.30pm Monday 14th March to speak to children and parents about transition to high school. Please come along and have a chat.
As you all know the Tour De Yorkshire will be coming through our villages in April. This is going to be a major village event and HMF Pinafores WI has been asked to make enough bunting to decorate the main route of around 2.3 km through both villages. We will need a significant quantity of fabric to do this. If you have any old duvet covers/sheets/fabric remnants lying around we would be very grateful for any donations. Any pattern or colour, but preferably cotton based. We are also looking for non-Pinafores to help out with making the bunting at our workshops which are being held every Wednesday evening from 8pm in the community centre. If you can sew, cut fabric, draw templates, measure binding, or just clear up and make tea, any help at all will be gratefully received. Please contact Alex Duncan on 680915, 07912434199, or firstname.lastname@example.org if you can assist in any way. Many thanks.
As part of the Tour de Yorkshire celebrations our school will be helping to create some artwork. There is a competition to design a piece of land art that will be created by Berts Barrow, and each class will be creating large replica team jerseys to decorate one of the viewing areas. We would like donations of plain white bed sheets please to help us create these. Thank you!
We would like remind parents to park considerately, we have had another complaint about cars blocking driveways. Please keep all driveway entrances and junctions clear. Thank you.
There will be a fashion show at the Cross Keys in Hillam on 14th March at 10am. Anybody welcome to attend.
