Next week’s school target is to look after your belongings, especially in the cloakrooms.
Please take time to talk about our school values for next week with your child – we encourage excellence in both teaching and learning.
Last week, a stranger entered the site of South Milford Primary School and took photographs of children playing netball. This matter has been referred to the police. We will remain vigilant during all activities at our school. If you notice anything suspicious please inform the police or inform the school office.
We are pleased to announce a new reading competition that we are starting for pupils. Our librarian, Mrs O’Brien, will be providing one book each week for the best book review. This will start after half term. To write a review, children will need to log into our library management website www.readingcloud.net and login by selecting our school and using their library card number as their username and password. Once in the website, they can click on their account to see which books they have loaned, and can create a review by clicking on the book title and then the ‘Create Review’ tab. It is really easy! Reviews are automatically sent to Mrs O’Brien for review. The website does a lot more, with suggestions for good reads, blogs, and other information about our books. Do please encourage your child to use it.
As you know, we encourage children to lead healthy lifestyles. If they bring packed lunch to school we encourage them to have healthy choices of food. We are not condemning chocolate and crisps when eaten in moderation, but do ask that these are saved for home food and not brought in packed lunches. Our cooks prepare very healthy and nutritious school dinners which children could purchase instead of bringing a packed lunch – we will be giving more information about these options in the coming weeks.
Easter Lunch Weds 10th April, we would like to invite you for lunch with your child(ren), cook is making a roast chicken dinner with seasonal vegetables, potatoes, stuffing and gravy followed by and Easter crispie bun. She has a quorn option for vegetarians. Please sign up via ParentPay, deadline is 15th March.
Enjoy working with young people, and want to make a difference in their lives? Please see the attached letter for more information.
A group of residents in Monk Fryston have formed ‘Monk Fryston Road Safety Partnership’, please read the attached flyer for full details.
Week commencing 4th March there is a slight change to the menu, Monday 4th March will be the Quorn Keema and Thurs 7th March will be Pasta bolognaise.
Don’t forget that we are inviting children to come to school dressed as their favourite book character to celebrate World Book Day on 7th March. They will be doing reading-related activities during the day.
We are delighted that we will be joined by two new members of staff after half term. Mrs Reid will be working as a teaching assistant in Year 2 for three mornings each week and as lunchtime supervisor, and Mrs Walbank will work two afternoons each week in Year 4.
A message from one of our pupils, Sammy.
I would like to help homeless people in Doncaster and support my sister’s fundraising to represent the UK at the World Scout Jamboree in the USA this summer. Please help me by bringing to school on Friday 22nd February any unwanted (clean and unripped) clothes that you have as well as shoes, belts, handbags – anything that you can wear! We can pass these onto a charity to help homeless people and they will donate money to me to support my sister so lots of people can benefit from my fundraising.
There are still a few places left on the Leeds United FC Foundation one day football camp which takes place on the Friday in half term (1st March, 9am-3pm). This is open to all local children aged 12 and under and promises to be a really good day. Monk Fryston Junior Football Club has been selected to host the event at its ground in Stocking Lane in Hillam, but it is open to anyone – it doesn’t matter if they play for Monk Fryston, another club or no club at all. Cost is just £20 for the day and there’s a packed, fun itinerary. Full details are attached. To reserve a place, just complete the attached registration form and return to Martin Crick at 6 The Meadows, Monk Fryston, LS25 5PJ together with payment.
