Friday News 16.10.15

Dear Parents/Carers,

For future diary dates and the chicken rota please refer to the ‘calendar’ on our website.  For Golden Table and Golden Book refer to the ‘Golden Book & Golden Table’ tag also on the website.

Next week’s school target; Respect and take care of playground equipment.

We will be selling tickets for the South Milford bonfire from next week. These can also be purchased from the Post Office or outlets in South Milford and Sherburn.

On several instances recently we have had to remove dog mess from the school field. This is a health and safety hazard for our children and causes real problems. If you exercise your dog near school, please do not allow it onto the premises. If you see another owner allowing their dog to access the premises please point out to them that there are signs clearly stating that dogs are not permitted – thank you.

Thank you to all the people who have volunteered to help at the South Milford bonfire. Don’t forget that the amount of money we receive is linked to the number of volunteers we supply. We still need more volunteers, particularly working in the catering tent on Saturday evening and clearing up on Sunday morning. Please let the office know if you are able to offer us any time.

We are still looking to borrow a couple of scaffold towers to help protect the barbecues at the bonfire – please let us know if you have one we can borrow.

Now that the nights are drawing in it is important that all our children remain safe when moving around the village in the evening. Please encourage your child to wear bright or reflective clothing, and if they are traveling by bike they certainly need lights to avoid an accident. There have been reports of some of our pupils cycling around the village without lights and this is extremely unsafe.

The beer fest committee are pleased to report that this year’s festival raised the fantastic sum of £7500 this year. We are delighted to be able to share this 50:50 between the school PTA and community association. We would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who supported us – by volunteering and attending the event. We simply could not have done it without everyone’s support.

Just a quick reminder that is individual photographs on Tuesday, anyone with siblings in school with also have their photos taken together.

The children have been making Christmas cards this week.  Once we receive the samples back we will send them home so you can order cards, tags and much more!!

The school disco is on Wednesday 21st October, £1.50 per ticket, KS1 5pm – 6pm, KS2 6pm  – 7.30pm.  Children can come in general fancy dress.

You will have seen that our JRSOs, supported by the police, have begun a campaign to improve parking in the areas around school. This is to ensure the safety of all road users, and particularly children coming to or leaving school. The police have asked that we point out that Rule 243 of the Highway Code clearly states that drivers must not park opposite or within 10m of a junction. They will be doing spot checks over the coming weeks and will issue tickets to drivers who break this rule.

Now that the weather is deteriorating we are unable to use the school field at playtimes. Unfortunately, the playground gets very congested, and in order to reduce accidents we have to ask children not to bring balls in from home to play with at playtimes, particularly basketballs and footballs. We do provide equipment for use at playtimes, but simply don’t have the space for ball games.

We will be selling poppies when we return after ½ term, they will be brought to the classrooms each day.  We will send a reminder out the first day back.
