Friday email 17th February 2017
Please take time to talk about our school values for the first week back after half term with your child.
We promote mutual respect and tolerance so that adults and children have a good working relationship and engage with British values.
On Tuesday 28th February, our school is being reviewed by a team of headteachers from the local area. Please note that this is not an inspection, but is to help SLT and governors with our self-evaluation of the school. I know that they will be keen to speak with parents at the start of the day, so if you see them on the playground and have a couple of minutes to spare, please make yourself known to them.
Unfortunately, we have again had several instances of traffic issues around the school. We always ask you to park considerately, and the police will pursue issues that contravene traffic laws including parking opposite junctions. We would ask you not to park in the staff car park as this is not for parental use other than registered disabilities. We are also trying to protect the young plants growing in the grass verges near the gate. Thank you for your co-operation and support. If you notice any specific incidents please inform the police directly on 101.
You will be aware that our Year 4 pupils receive a music lesson every week. We also provide group lessons in a number of instruments for pupils in other year groups through the County Music service. Learning an instrument is fun, and an extremely valuable skill. If you would like your child to participate in lessons, please ask the office for more information. We are particularly keen to have more children learning the flute, as this group has now reduced and is restricting the opportunities of one of our pupils who is keen to learn.
Comic Relief this year is on Friday 24th March. We will once again collect donations for this charity and are holding a non-uniform day with a red theme – children can come in a red item of clothing in return for a £1 donation.
Following an interview process yesterday, governors are delighted to have appointed Mrs Hind to cover Mrs Elcock’s maternity absence in Reception from Easter.
You will be aware that our list of after-school clubs has really grown this year. We now have fantastic provision for our children. Next half term we will run clubs in: science, maths, science, sewing, multiskills, boards & beads, computing, football, history & baking. Unfortunately, we can’t make these available to everyone and some only apply to specific year groups. Please look on ParentPay for full details.
Don’t forget that on 28th February we have some local headteachers visiting our school. This isn’t an inspection, but is to help governors with school evaluation.
We have some events for parents happening in March. On 24th March we will hold a Mother’s Day lunch; the evening of 24th March is also out famous PTA quiz; and 30th March will be a maths information evening. Please hold these dates in your diary.
This year’s class photographs will be taken on Thursday 9th March 2017.
Have a great half term!
