As you know, we believe that reading is an essential life skill and we give it a high priority within our curriculum. All children should read as part of their homework, and we strongly encourage parents to support them with this. Attached is our updated reading booklet that parents of older children will have seen before. It has information about how we teach reading at school and suggestions about how you can help your child at home. We intend sending further information in the coming weeks, and hope you find this useful in supporting your child’s reading.
Children In Need day is Friday 13th November. The theme this year is ‘being a hero for change’, and so we would encourage children to ‘change’ for the day in return for a donation to the charity. They may wish to change their hair for the day, or even change from a boy to a girl (or vice versa!) We will be collect lose change for children to cover Pudsey Bear with and as always the very popular bun sale. Please send in donations of buns, every child will receive one and then the remaining ones will be sold after school.
Don’t forget that applications for School Direct teacher training placements go live next week. You can search for our course on the UCAS website by looking for Monk Fryston School. Further information is on our website.
We will be selling poppies when we return after ½ term, they will be brought to the classrooms each day. We will send a reminder out the first day back. There are other items available as well as the standard and self-adhesive poppies which we have in limited amounts. Please see attached poster with details of items and suggested donation prices. Could you please send any money in with your child in a sealed envelope/money bag with their name, year grp and exactly what they want to purchase. Don’t forget we have the standard and stick on poppies too!
The School Council would like to raise money to purchase new playtime equipment and to make improvements in the pupil toilets. They are organising a ‘Monday Bun Day’ on Monday 9th November after school and would like donations of buns please. Children may bring £1 on that day to buy a bun after school, with all monies going towards the school council project.
There is a Halloween Bonfire Party at Monk Fryston Community Centre Sat 31st Dec, please see attached posters. Someone will be selling tickets in the playground tonight.
