Friday News 29.11.19

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next week’s school target is remember to behave sensibly in the cloakrooms.

Don’t forget it’s the PTA Christmas Fayre on Saturday 7th December 12-2pm.  We look forward to seeing lots of you there.  We are having a pre-loved Christmas jumper/t-shirt/oufit stall so if you have a Christmas jumper you no longer wear then please donate it to school then come along and treat yourself to a new one!

Children in years 1 to 6 will be going to the pantomime on 11th December, we will be leaving school at 12.15pm so will be having an earlier lunch.  If your child is having school lunches that week then cook will be providing a buffet lunch which the children will eat in their classroom.  Reception do not go to the pantomime so will have a school dinner as normal.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Poppy Appeal, we raised £453.66.

Thank you also to everyone who donated to Children In Need this year, we raised £226.74.

The post box for Christmas cards will be put in school from the start of next week. This gives children the opportunity to send a card to someone in school (but not outside school please!) The envelope should be clearly labelled with the recipient’s full name and class, so that it can be delivered to the right person. Deliveries will be made periodically during the last few weeks of term.

As the afternoons are now darker, it is important that your child can be seen when leaving school. Please try to ensure that they have something bright or reflective (book bags are excellent for this) so that they are safe on the roads.

If you would like to become a governor at one of our STAR Schools, please see the advert attached.

Please remember that in the interests of safety we do not allow dogs to be brought anywhere on our site. If you bring your dog to school when collecting children, we would be grateful if you could tie it up safely away from the gate so that children who are nervous around animals are able to walk past it safely – thank you.

Have you seen our new shelter outside the Reception classroom? This has been paid for by the MAT and is one of the benefits of being part of a larger partnership. It will allow our EYFS children to access a wider range of outdoor activities. The old red canopy has been relocated outside Year 1 which will offer another area of shade and shelter for our younger children.

We know that the start and end of the day can be quite hectic around our school, particularly the entrance doors. We have noticed that some parents are choosing to wait quite close to the doors and this can cause problems, particularly if they have pushchairs etc, as it blocks the way for other children and their parents and can compromise safety. Please show consideration towards others by leaving ample space in front of the entrances, thank you.

A Viking in our Village (see attached poster) Between 2 – 4pm on Sunday 8th December our Viking will be on stage at 3pm for FREE.  Our Viking is one of the enactors/guides from the Yorvic experience and will explain what daily life was like for Vikings; she will be available to meet before and after the talk. As you are probably aware the school sits on Lumby Hill and Lumby has a viking place name origin.

Also there will be special areas dedicated to displays of Monk Fryston, Hillam and Burton Salmon history and a local history challenge related our ‘History in the Making’ project when you will be challenged to date pictures of relatively recent aspects of village history – When did this happen?

And.. we are interested in collecting residents memories to add to our research project – since the demise of local newspapers and growth of 24/7 non stop global news stream much of our local news goes either unreported or is soon forgotten and lost.
