Friday News 7.4.17

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our top attendees this week are Year 1 with 99% attendance. Well done!

As you know, PTA have joined with St Wilfrid’s Church to organise a table top sale on Saturday 6th May, from 11am – 1pm. Anyone can purchase a stall, and proceeds will be split between the church and school. The PTA are having a stall, run by our Year 4 pupils, and we are collecting donations of things to sell – toys, games, household items etc. Please do be generous! Items can be left in the school entrance, where we usually collect donated items.

The brilliant Monk Fryston Beer Festival takes place on 15th & 16th September this year. This is always a wonderful event and is well supported by the whole community. Please book the date in your diary – tickets will be available during the summer term. We are also looking for volunteers throughout the weekend and would welcome any support you could offer.

Parking continues to be a problem around our school. Please be considerate when parking vehicles in the surrounding area, including the community centre. Thank you.

For safeguarding reasons it is very important that we know if children are not going to attend an after-school club. Please ensure that you inform the school office if your child won’t be attending a club, so that staff can be informed.

We have received a supply of information cards from the ‘MeningitisNow’ charity. The cards aim to provide useful information to help the early identification of the symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia. Your child will bring a card home with them tonight for you to keep if you wish. There are more available in the school entrance – please help yourself.

Don’t forget to order your plants for the Y5 Plantopia scheme. Please follow the link on the website. Money raised from our sales will go towards new resources for school.

Thomas and James in Y4 are holding a tuck shop as part of theY4 Archie B challenge.  Thomas has chosen to donate his share of the proceeds to Water Aid and James’ share will help support starving people in Africa. They will be selling sweets in the playground after school on Friday 28th April.

Knottingley Food Bank sent a thank you for the food donated from January to March. We have a crate in the school entrance if you would like to donate any food items to the charity. Mrs Candler regularly takes our collected donations to them. Your support is really appreciated.

There are some adult, gentle back to netball sessions starting in the school grounds on Tuesday evenings starting 25th April 7.30-9.30pm. For all of you who haven’t played or want some fresh air fun exercise, please come along, everyone is welcome. All you need is to dress for the weather & some trainers. If you are interested please email

We have received the following information from NYCC to pass to parents –
Blue Whale Challenge –is a social media site that is reportedly leading some young people to cut themselves and in some extreme cases could be leading them to commit suicide. It has been brought to our attention by North Yorkshire Police and one of our North Yorkshire secondary schools who had become aware of this through links with a school in a neighbouring local authority.
Intelligence would indicate that young people are approached in a chat room and then asked to take part in private chats before being given a list of tasks to complete. One of the tasks is reportedly getting young people to cut into their skin the image of a ‘blue whale’. There are concerns that the last task they are asked to do is commit suicide.
