Our new outdoor area is open

Padre John Hetherington officially opened the new area outside our EYFS and Year 1 area as one of his last official duties at our school. The area includes all-weather surfacing for children to play on and a large rain canopy outside the Year 1 classroom. This has all been funded through the kind donations of our PTA, who have raised significant amounts of money to make this happen. Now that the first phase of the project is open we plan to install additional play equipment and soft planting to improve the area for our children.

Y1 & Y2 Pumpkin Picking

On Tuesday Years 1 and 2 visited Bert’s Barrow to pick the pumpkins they had planted in June. Everyone was amazed at how big the pumpkins had grown, and thanked Jason and Charlotte for looking after them so well. While we were there we listened to Farmer Sam explain how to grow leeks from a tiny seed. The children had a fantastic time, and even enjoyed the walk back to school following the tractor carrying all their pumpkins. Y1’s trip to Antarctica!

Y1 have been planning a trip to Antarctica. They’ve written a list of what they need and had a go pitching a tent. Next stop the South Pole!

Yr 1 X-Country Event

Year 1 had a great time taking part in the X-Country event today at South Milford Primary School. All the children ran really well and gave it their all. They even got a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!!!

Their behaviour was excellent and they represented our school extremely well.

What a beautiful day to be out running.

Fossil Workshop Yr 1 & Y6

FOSSIL WORKSHOP

Last week, the children in Year1 and Year 6 were treated to a journey back to prehistoric times. Mike from the Yorkshire Geology Trust showed the children a wide range of fossils and explained how they provided information about what Yorkshire was like 200 million years ago.

The children then used their science knowledge and gathered evidence to undertake a CSI-style investigation: Who caused the death of Trixie the Triceratops? They enjoyed presenting their ideas to each other and discussing who the culprit really was! What a super way to extend our learning!

Have you seen the new dragon in our hall? Our after-school art club has created this magnificent (and scary!) piece of collaborative work. It really looks amazing! Art club will run again for younger children next term.

Year 1 Cross Country event

Year 1 had a very successful visit to South Milford last week to participate in a local inter-school cross country competition. Everyone in the class participated with great enthusiasm, completing the course and supporting one another with great team spirit. We were particularly pleased to pick up a Gold medal in the boys competition and a bronze in the girls ! Go Year 1 !

Year 1 & 2 Bridlington Trip

The Year 1 and 2 annual seaside trip proved a fantastic day out last week ! The adventure started at the John Bull Rock Factory where we all got to make some tasty treats and find out all about the history of this sticky seaside sweet ! A quick bus ride took us to the beach for an afternoon of sandcastle, suntans and shell collecting. The children were a real credit to our school and the countless compliments we got from those adults we encountered throughout the day were testament to this. Well done KS1 !
