Y4 Archbishop Young Leaders Award

We are so proud of the children in Year 4 who have worked very hard to achieve their Archbishop of York Young Leaders awards. During a special ceremony at Monk Fryston Hall yesterday, the children shared with their audience, all that they had done to ‘be the change that you want to see’ in their local community. This ranged from raising money for charity by selling cakes and chocolates and running a craft club in school, to donating items to food banks, taking part in sporting events and doing random acts of kindness for others. The children have proved that they are excellent leaders within our school and the wider community. They received their certificates from the Archdeacon to congratulate them on all their achievements this year. Well done Year 4!

Y3 & Y4 Eureka Visit 11.7.17

Year 3 and 4 enjoyed an amazing day at Eureka yesterday. The weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we were actively engaged in some fascinating science. And it certainly was hands on for 2 of our pupils who quite literally held fire in their hands! It was incredible to see the joy on the faces of all the pupils and staff. The learning opportunities were embraced by all and we will certainly remember this day for a long time.

Y4 Basketball Festival

8 Year 4’s took part in a basketball festival yesterday competing against other schools in our area. They showed great enthusiasm and played their very best. Miss Jaques was extremely impressed with you all!

Y4 York Chocolate Story

Year 4 enjoyed a chocarific trip to York’s Chocolate Story last Wednesday! We began the day with a tour of the factory which started with a sample of real chocolate to taste (always a good sign!)We then learnt all about the history of chocolate, both worldwide and in York itself. Later on, we explored the virtual chocolate factory, learning about the process of bean to bar through an interactive workbench, and we were even trained in how to become chocolate eating connoisseurs! Finally, the tour ended with an explanation on how to make blueberry and vanilla truffles by a very talented chocolatier – simply amazing! Our day did not finish there though – next it was our turn to put into practise what we had learnt – we created our own truffles…this became rather messy as we (including the teachers) struggled to execute the tricky task of dipping with one hand and decorating with the other!!! We still have room for improvement in our decorative skills, but no one can deny – they still tasted good! What a fabulous day to remember.

Y4 Wow Work

Year 4 certainly wowed us all on Friday with an absolutely stunning array of all things Egyptian. They really did set the standard extremely high with their mini projects ranging from ‘Egyptian Maths’ where the measurements of the pyramids were considered and compared, to scale, with other famous buildings, to glittery death masks, to interactive games and quizzes and a Tutankhamun sarcophagus which was the size of an actual two year old toddler! Phenomenal! We are so proud of their efforts and achievements and had a wonderful time, spending the morning, exploring all their hard work

Y4 Egyptian Day 23.9.16

We have enjoyed a fantastic day full of facts, artifacts, masks, armour, bow and arrows, a real mummified crocodile…it can only be our Egyptian Day! We have learnt so much and had fun along the way! A perfect Friday in school and introduction to our topic.

Young Leaders Award

Throughout this year, our Year 4 pupils have worked towards the Archbishop’s Youth Trust Young Leaders award. They learnt how to be leaders and identified a project in the community that they would like to improve. The wanted to “Be the change that you want to see”. They chose to improve the Green outside school, and so with the support of the Parish Council they have removed litter and weeds, planted new bulbs, refurbished the woodwork, and installed new nesting boxes. They really have made a big difference!
In recognition of their great work they were presented the Young Leaders Award by the Bishop of Selby, and by Ben Fry the morning presenter on Minster FM at a grand ceremony at Monk Fryston Hall. This was a lovely occasion and it was fitting to celebrate their achievements.
