Our School Day
The doors to our school open at 8:50am, when children are welcomed by a member of staff and usually have an activity to complete in their classroom. School ends at 3:30pm.
Our daily sessions run from 8:50am to 3:30pm, which is exceeds the government expectation for schools to be open to pupils for at least 32.5 hours each week (our week is 33.3 hours)
Admissions
We welcome enquiries from prospective families who are interested in their child starting, or continuing, their primary education at Monk Fryston Primary School, or the sister school in our federation Saxton CE Primary. We believe it is really important that families visit prospective schools, ours included, to get a feel for the ethos and vision of the school and to see if it is the ‘right fit’ for their child. We are very proud of our children and want to show to you their wonderful attitudes to learning, behaviour, and achievements.
How do I apply for a place for my child?
To enroll your child in Monk Fryston CE Primary School, you should first contact the school office in order to make an appointment to visit our school and have a look around our lovely site, meet our team and ask any questions you may have.
If you need any support in accessing school admissions please contact Mrs Katie McLachlan, Office Manager, at the school, who can help guide you through the process.

How do apply for a place for my child after Reception year?
Sometimes children need to move school at times other than entry to Reception.
These changes may be unavoidable, for example when you move house, or sometimes they occur because of difficulties at your child’s current school. Changing schools is a big event for any child and should not be undertaken without first talking to the head teacher at your child’s current school, to try and resolve any problems. We would always encourage you to contact your child’s school in the first instance in order to resolve any issues. If this can’t be done, our team will happily talk you through the next steps on the telephone and organise a visit to see our school in action.
A number of our classes are full and cannot accommodate additional pupils. If this is the case, we will discuss this with you. We would encourage you to leave your contact details with us so that we can contact you should there be any in-year movement and place becomes available.
If you live in North Yorkshire, in-year admission requests must be made by filling in an in-year preference form online listing up to five school preferences. The authority will then look at each preference in turn, starting with the highest, and provide your details to the school. If there is not a place available at that school, they will look at your next highest preference and continue down the list until they can offer your child a place. If they are unable to allocate any of your preferences they will seek to find an alternative place at a school within a reasonable distance of your home. You also have a right to appeal for a place at any of the schools listed on your preference form.
If you are not currently living in North Yorkshire, but are requesting a place at a North Yorkshire school, you should contact your home authority and complete their in-year preference form. If you are planning to move into North Yorkshire, you can still complete our online form, but we will need to know when you are moving and the address in North Yorkshire that you are moving to, to enable us to process your application.
